{Introduction}

So, a little more about actual me, instead of why I’m writing this blog.

My name is Nicki Anderson and I was born in Greeley, Colorado. I lived there until I turned 18 and got the hell out! Not that I didn’t have great times there, but, you know… time to move away.

Except after a year of living in Western Illinois in the middle of nowhere, going to a college that didn’t fit me, I moved back… to Greeley… to go to community college.

Still not my forte, so I moved to the far, far away land of London in 2012 for an internship abroad for the summer. I worked at a domestic violence non-profit organization. I loved my time abroad and it was so eye opening.

After, I moved back to Colorado to Fort Collins and tried one last time at college, and after a year at the University and a year at community college (trust me I tried really hard to make the college thing work), I finally decided it really wasn’t for me.

So I worked in retail for the next few years and decided I was really good at it. But I was actually just a hard worker who was really terrible at it in the long run. It was emotionally exhausting and depressing. For all the retail workers out there, I appreciate you!

Somewhere in there, I got a dog, married the love of my life, and then got a few more dogs and a house.

After more depressing retail work, I was done. So I did a little soul searching for a year, AKA, had a quarter life crisis.

Yup! So, I did online school one last time for what I thought would be three months. I finished the travel agent course in less than two weeks and then tested for my CTA certification through the Travel Institute and passed.

A few months later; cue New Horizons Travel. I sent in my resume, and to my surprise, I got an email asking to call and come in for an interview. After a couple interviews, and an excruciating month-long wait, I was hired.

I still have no idea how I did it. Call it luck or fate or destiny, but I started working there with absolutely no previous experience!

I did a bunch of training videos: some exciting, and some very boring, but necessary. And then came that first reservation, second, and more.

Even after a year, I still don’t really have a clientele base, but it’s growing. Not everyone takes a trip every year or multiple a year, but I’m always hoping that my clients will return when they’re ready. ❤
